Notre Dame-San Lorenzo Valley softball

Central Coast Section Division III playoffs
Wednesday's game
 No. 11 Notre Dame (14-9) at No. 6 San Lorenzo Valley (15-4), 4 p.m.
It's an odd position for the defending CCS Division II champion Spirits, who are seeded No. 11 and will be on the road against Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League runner-up San Lorenzo Valley.
Notre Dame has been seeded No. 1 three out of the last four years. It has gone 17-1 over the last five years in the CCS playoffs.
Four year starting hurler Vanessa Gonzalez has risen to the occasion in the postseason in the past for the Spirits, posting a 10-1 record, with the loss coming in the 2016 title game.
Hawaii University bound catcher Kaeli Bush comes into the playoffs hitting .458 with five homers for Notre Dame, while sophomore Logan Riggenbach is hitting .472 with 10 bombs and 44 RBI.
The Cougars are averaging over 10 runs a game this spring. Ashley Welsh and Zoe Mendez are both hitting over .500 with five home runs and a combined 50 runs batted in.
Welsh will also draw the start in the circle for San Lorenzo Valley, posting an 11-4 record with an earned run average of 2.26.
