MBL Masters Track Meet

I've never been a big fan of this meet. To me you're just repeating what we witnessed a week earlier at the Gabilan and Pacific Division finals.
Why hold two divisional championship meets on the same site at the same time if you're going to do it all over again seven days later?
I get it. Some athletes run multiple events at the league finals, in an effort to chase a team title. But that is also the case in the MTAL and SCCAL. And it's worked OK.
We kind of already know who the top three or four athletes in each event are coming into this meet. Yes, it's nice that nine athletes -- 12 in some events -- have extended their seasons in each event to chase five spots.
And there's always one or two that rise to the occasion and get that final spot. But there are also one or two injuries or mishaps that end a season abruptly.
When you've been grinding since February, an extra meet with little implications for the elite always has coaches crossing their fingers.
I guess the one advantage is it does give athletes another shot at competing on Gilroy's track, which will be the site of the CCS Trials and CCS Finals.
It does matter, particularly in the field events where conditions come into to play. But with the state finals being moved up a week next year, this may all be a moot point this time next spring.
