CCS golf

Reigning 16 time Monterey Bay League champion Palma and 10-time Mission Trail Athletic League winner Stevenson have higher ambitions.
State has been the objective since day one. The second step starts Tuesday when the two county golf powers compete in the Central Coast Section finals at Laguna Seca Golf Course.
Both teams advanced last week at the CCS Regionals, while not having their sharpest games over the 18 hole course.
This time, just three teams and four individuals not on a team will advance to the Northern California championships in eight days.
While both the Chieftains and Stevenson are familiar with Laguna Seca, having played there the last two weeks, both have had afternoon tee times, where the conditions are different.
Behind MTAL Most Valuable Player Charles Alliston, the Pirates have won two major invitationals this year.
Palma can draw on the experience of senior Joey Burlison, who went to the state meet two years ago as a sophomore.
Burlison, who will golf next year at New York University, was the MBL's Most Valuable Player and the Chieftains medalist at last week's regionals.
The field for the three qualifying spots is loaded with Bellarmine, Harker, Palo Alto, Menlo, Serra and St. Francis all in the hunt.
Individually, George McNeely is in pursuit of a Northern California bid for Carmel. Last week the junior recorded the fourth lowest score, shooting a 1-over 72.
