Five seniors for the Central Coast Section Division III champion Padres gave up grad night on Thursday because the team is playing in the Northern California Division II semifinals.
Or at least they were.
Because Harker is graduating Thursday, administrators agreed to move the match to Friday.
"I'm trying to keep this team together," Carmel coach Israel Ricardez said.
This decision won't help.
Harker has three seniors on their roster that don't see a lot of playing time. This match could have and should have been played a different time, not date.
Grad night is a once in a lifetime experience that these players were willing to give up for the team. It was not an easy decision.
And who ever prevails on Friday will likely be on the road Saturday for a title match in Pleasanton.
