Carmel-Pacific Grove softball

Who didn't think this game might decide the Mission Trail Athletic League title before spring break.
Well, apparently unbeaten Santa Catalina, who has defeated both teams twice in the last 12 days to take command of the MTAL at 11-0.
While both the Breakers and Carmel are technically still alive in the MTAL title chase, one will be eliminated tonight.
What's really at stake other than pride between the two rivals is gearing up for the postseason.
The likelihood is all three MTAL powers will be lumped into the Central Coast Section Division II playoffs in two weeks, along with defending section champion Notre Dame.
Meaning at some point, another meeting will evolve in the playoffs.
An argument can be made that the most dangerous player in the section right now is Florida Atlantic University bound Danielle Pasquariello, who has nine home runs.
More than half of the Pacific Grove seniors 39 hits this season have gone for extra bases, as she has driven in 45 runs.
No wonder two opponents have walked Pasquariello with the bases loaded this spring.
The Padres, who have notable wins in the preseason against San Benito and Notre Dame, are 8-2 in their last 10 games, with both losses coming from Santa Catalina.
Anna Buzan and Jocelyne Bruno continue to spray the ball around the field for Carmel.
