Mt. Madonna-Santa Catalina volleyball

Central Coast Section Division V
Wednesday's game
No. 4 Mt. Madonna (9-16) vs. No. 1 Santa Catalina (23-0) at Thomas More High, 7:30 p.m.
While the Hawks stumbled to a 2-12 record in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League, they were 7-4 outside league play.
Two players have over 200 kills this season for Mt. Madonna, including freshman Paula Jacobs, who has compiled a team high 239.
This is a young group getting their feet wet with two freshmen and four sophomores making up a roster that has just one senior.
Going undefeated was not on the agenda when the fall started for Santa Catalina. But getting back to the Central Coast Section Division V finals was.
It's been unfinished business for the Cougars from the start, and they have played like it behind setter McKinley Fox.
The 6-foot-1 junior has spread the ball around the floor to the likes of left-handed hitting sophomore Maria Santos and Saige Madden, who have nearly 500 kills between them.
No program plays better defense than the Cougars, who have relied over the last three years on libero Olivia Satow.
Having swept University Prep in the Division V quarterfinals last Saturday, Santa Catalina has now swept 19 matches this fall. Of a possible 70 sets, it has won 64.
Before wondering if the Cougars have been tested this year, they are 2-0 in matches that have gone five sets, both coming on the road.
