Saturday's game
Alvarez (2-2) at Monterey (1-3), 2 p.m.
Did Alvarez finally find its identity in the second half last week?
Holding a slim one-point lead, the Eagles ran off 24 unanswered points in their final tune-up for the start of Gabilan Division play.
Changing offensive schemes this fall has not fared well with the personnel at Monterey. It's tough to change a system in only five weeks.
Depth has also been an issue for the Toraedores, who have been outscored 56-0 in the second half in their three losses.
Akili Smith has been a bright spot for Monterey with 628 yards in four games, including a 317-yard effort in the teams only win over Soquel.
Tarrence Albritton has been a valuable short yardage back for Monterey with four touchdowns. He is also the heart of the defense along with Matthew Wright.
The Eagles have some playmakers, starting with Alan Camel-Edwards, who returned a kick 85 yards for a touchdown to open the second half last week.
KJ Matthews has become one of quarterback Joziah Garcia's favorite targets while Anthony Venegas supplied a pair of touchdowns last week.
Monterey's only win this year came on Saturday at home. Alvarez is 1-0 in Saturday games on the road.
