The CSU-Monterey Bay volleyball standout was named to the Capital One Academic All-American team by College Sports Information Directors of America.
Ashen, a North Salinas High graduate, became just the third CSUMB athlete to earn the honor, joining softball's Jamie Moon in 2012 and baseball's Brian Haggett in 2013.
The 6-foot-2 junior outside hitter compiled a 4.00 grade point average, leading the California Collegiate Athletic Association in kills per game (4.31), finishing 10th in the nation in Division II.
Ashen's 500 kills this past fall broke her own school record of 426, helping the Otters to a school record 18 wins.
