All Star football

29th Monterey County High School All-Star Football Game
Friday, 6:30 p.m.
At Rabobank Stadium, Salinas
Some names to keep an eye on tonight:
Holden Smith, Carmel: The tailback went over 1,000 yards rushing for the third consecutive year, finishing with a county record 82 touchdowns in his career.
David Dorr, North Salinas: The fleet receiver helped the Vikings back to the playoffs, catching 58 passes for 998 yards.
DeAndre Sharif, King City: Last season the multi purpose Mustang scored touchdowns five different ways, catching 39 passes for nearly 700 yards and eight touchdowns.
Ben Laycock, Palma: Earned the Gabilan Division Offensive Lineman of the Year award, helping Palma  tailback Brandon Olivares set a new school rushing record.
Brian Hunt, Marina: The first player ever from the Mariners chosen to the all-star game, Hunt has gotten rave reviews in practice this week.
Justin Pleasont, Salinas: The Gabilan Divison Defensive Lineman of the Year often drew double teams this past fall.
Chris McNeal, Monterey: The defensive back finished the year with six interceptions, picking off three in a playoff win over Menlo.
Michael Alcaraz, Trinity: While the quarterbacks numbers are a little inflated because Trinity plays 8-man football, Alcaraz's vision and arm will be on display Friday.
Ronnie Turner, Seaside: Arguably the best all-around player on the field, Turner caught 36 passes for nearly 700 yards last fall. He also returned an interception for a touchdown.
Jose Martinez, Soledad: The MTAL's Defensive Player of the Year, Martinez was equally dangerous on offense as a receiver.
Justyn Gutierrez, North Salinas: In the year of the quarterback, Gutierrez quietly threw for 2,104 yards and 14 touchdowns last fall for the resurgent Vikings.
