Football picks

No rhyme or reason, but how did I not pick Alvarez last week? Still a 9-1 mark improves the season record to 81-24.

Friday's games
Monta Vista-Cupertino at Alvarez: We're not making that mistake again, not with Alvarez hosting its first ever playoff game. Pick: Alvarez.
Mitty vs. Palma at Rabobank: Palma is 2-0 against Mitty in the playoffs. But Mitty was unbeaten until last week. No Brandon Olivares for Palma. Ouch. Pick: Mitty.
Pacific Grove at Live Oak: I do have concerns about Pacific Grove's defense and stopping a back with 2,500 plus rushing yards. Pick: Pacific Grove.
Scotts Valley at Carmel: The Padres first ever playoff win came against Scotts Valley in 2009. That was the year they won a CCS title. Pick: Carmel.
North Salinas at Los Gatos: The Vikings are facing a program with 12 CCS divisional titles. Then again, that means nothing this year. Pick: Los Gatos.
Salinas at Piedmont Hills: Having faced Pirates QB Anthony McBride last year will help Salinas make it six straight Division I semifinal appearances. Pick: Salinas.
Monterey vs. Menlo at Sequoia High: Did the Toreadores have a hangover effect last week after the emotion of facing Seaside the week before? Pick: Menlo.
Independence at San Benito: The defending CCS Division I champion Balers are 6-2 in the month of November over the last two years. Pick: San Benito.

Saturday's games
Seaside at Sacred Heart Prep: The Spartans looked awful good last week. Can they put back-to-back games together for the first time all year. Pick: Sacred Heart Prep.
Contra Costa vs. Hartnell at Cabrillo College: Overtime and three points have been the difference in two previous meetings. It's tough to beat a team twice in the same year. Pick: Hartnell.

Live Oak will be a tough matchup for Pacific Grove. This should be a very good game. Probably a pickem. PG will have to score because they will probably have a tough time stopping the Acorns rushing attack.

Monterey will have a shot if Menlo's QB doesn't play and they somehow improve their pass defense. With Menlo's QB, I think menlo wins. However, without Monterey could in this one. Menlo could have some trouble with Monterey athleticism.

If Seaside plays their A game, they could be in this one. Or they could lose big. Will find out early.
