North Salinas was impressive in two non-league games, outscoring two former league rivals 26-4.
But that should not have come as a surprise.
This is a young and improving program, aided by the return of all-leaguer Zack Foster.
 Now comes the first test as the Vikings visit perennial playoff figure Salinas in both teams Gabilan Division opener.
 Salinas took its lumps in the preseason, dropping its last three games. It might be noted that two of the losses were to powers in their respective sections. And two losses were by two runs or less.
 Julian Wilcox and Lane Larronde hit the ball well in non-league play for the Cowboys.
