If there was one team that gave North Salinas fits on its way to a Monterey Bay League Gabilan Division title this year, it was San Benito.
The Vikings hung on for a 45-43 win in Hollister, then rallied from a halftime deficit to beat them by 10 to clinch the league title nine days ago.
It's also the last time North Salinas -- who faces San Benito today in the Division I quarterfinals at 6:15 p.m. at Hartnell College -- has played.
Will there be rust?
The No. 3 seeded Vikings (19-5) come into the game riding a nine-game winning streak.
Notre Dame limps into the Division V playoffs with two of its top three scorers doubtful for today's game with Anzar at Castilleja in Palo Alto.
I don't see the No. 2 seeded Spirits (12-12) having trouble getting to the next round, where they will face either St. Francis Catholic or Santa Catalina in the semifinals -- two teams they have already beaten this year.
But someone other than Marisa Given will have to pick up the scoring slack to keep the season going.
Santa Catalina is playing with a little confidence after giving MTAL champion and Division V top seed Pacific Collegiate a battle last week.
But the Cougars win over Jewish Community on Thursday was a glorified scrimmage.
