Sunday morning thoughts

Biggest surprise: Carmel laying 51 points on a talented Monterey football team, sending them to their first loss of the season.

Most important: Stevenson knocking off St. Francis Catholic. The Pirates will contend for a playoff spot in the MTAL.

Most disappointing: Hartnell jumping out to a 21-0 first quarter lead, then giving up 55 points in a 55-38 loss.

Concerns: The alternating of two quarterbacks at MPC. There's no stability. MPC trailed 27-6 before Daniel Connors played the entire fourth quarter, throwing three touchdown passes in a rally that came up short.

Most impressive: Soledad quarterback Steve Lemus completing 12-of-16 passes for nearly 200 yards and three touchdowns in a win over Harbor.
