All-star football roster shuffling

An all-star football game on the Monterey Peninsula with no Peninsula schools?
Well, that's not completely true. Two athletes from Monterey High are playing in Friday's annual battle.
But that's it.
Where's Seaside, Pacific Grove, Carmel and Stevenson?
Moving the summertime event of 24 years to January was suppose to create more interest.
Instead, it's forced rosters to be juggled.
The West squad now consists of athletes from Palma, Salinas, Alvarez and North County. The East gets the four South County schools and North Salinas and Alisal, but no San Benito, who opted out as well.
Having this annual event during the start of league play in basketball has hurt the game. I wanted to see Palma's David Fales and Carmel's Ken Johnston flinging passes, and North Salinas' Marc Ramos running the ball.
But they're all playing basketball — Johnston that same night.
At least it's a great recruiting tool for MPC, since the game is being played there. But if you were going to move the game, it should have come the week after the CCS football finals. Keep that in mind for next year.
