Monterey football

Losing running back Joel Kemper to an injury is going to hurt Monterey in its bid for the programs first CCS title in 15 years.
Without the Central Coast Section 200 and 400 meter sprint champion, opponents will hone in on MBL rushing champion Markeen Williams.
Between the pair is over 2,000 rushing yards.
But what makes Kemper so valuable is his intangibles. Before being injured, he had a punt return of 85 yards that set up a touchdown. Leland never kicked to him again. That's gone now.
And he made a touchdown saving tackle as a free safety.
I will say this. As a team, Monterey stepped up when Kemper went down, outscoring Leland 21-0 to break up a 14-14 tie.
