Lost in all the talk of Monterey reaching the boys state cross country championships for the first time, was that Notre Dame is also going to be spending Thanksgiving weekend in Fresno as a team for the first time.
A program that has struggled just to field a team in the past has put together a blend of youth and talent that provides a promising future.
Of course, based on their performance at last week's Central Coast Section finals, the future has arrived for the Spirits.
And perhaps we've just come to expect it. But Carmel won its third straight girls CCS team title and will be a factor in the State Division IV championships.
I guess when you just keep winning, you're not as compelling of a story.
