Palma coach Jeff Carnazzo may question his decision today to run the ball on its final drive, rather than pounce on Gilroy with an aerial attack that produced two quick fourth quarter touchdowns to get them back in the game.
But why?
It was working.
The Chieftains went from the 38-yard line to the 9-yard line, chewing up nearly four minutes of the clock.
Giving Gilroy quarterback Jamie Jensen more than a minute wouldn't have been wise. If Palma had tried to score quickly, as it did on its previous two possessions, a winded defense wouldn't have had much left in the tank.
Remember, it spent most of the second half on the field.
And some credit has to go to Gilroy's defense, who rose to the occasion, pushing Palma back on its last four plays.
