Salinas football

Call it a dress rehearsal. An impressive one at that.
Rekindling a 50 plus year old rivalry turned into the most lopsided game ever among the two Salinas schools as the Cowboys erupted for 71 points in a 64-point win over North Salinas.
 What does this mean?
Not a lot. Well that's not completely true. Salinas was that much better.
But didn't we sort of know that coming in? The Cowboys were suppose to win this game. Maybe not by 64 points.
Bringing back this game served no real purpose. North Salinas isn't at that level right now, although it played hard with pride and passion.
That's not a knock on the Vikings program. It's going in the right direction.
Other than film, I'm not sure if Salinas learned much about themselves that it didn't already know. It's a top level program.
We already know Carl Richardson is one of the top quarterbacks in Northern California, having been offered a scholarship to Washington State this past summer.
Richardson went out and tossed four touchdowns on 10 completions. We did see a new wrinkle in his game, rushing for the games first two touchdowns.
And the Cowboys limited their penalties to four, which was a thorn in their side last fall. Seven times they were called for over 100 yards in penalties last season.
Now comes Clovis, who goes into its Friday showdown with rival Bullard having outscored its first two opponents 90-14 this fall.
It humbled Salinas last year 40-16. And it will be about 90 degrees at game time. Redemption starts with complete focus.

100% agreement. This "rivalry" should not have been rekindled. Neither team learned anything about themselves and the series should stop until it's apparent the gap has closed... significantly.

Further, once Rancho San Juan fields a varsity team, Salinas jump ship on the city jamboree and start scrimmaging WCAL teams because that's who they're going to be facing in the playoffs.

This "rivalry", for the time being, is dead.

Agree with the blog and Cal14. In my opinion, I think Salinas should have scheduled a stronger team as well before facing Clovis which defeated the Cowboys last season, and have played more games. Clovis will be another level and the Cowboys should have scheduled stronger to prepare them better. As Cal14 states, I think Salinas should not participate in the jamboree and scrimmage some stronger programs instead. Palma scrimmages Saint Ignatius and had a regular one with Wilcox. It just seems the level of play in the jamboree and this opening game do nothing to help prepare the Cowboys for even their league and more importantly the playoffs. Clovis is a good game and even Milpitas, but if Cowboys win or place #2 in the Gab chances are they will be facing WCAL teams in the playoffs.
