Pacific Grove football

A growing concern for the Breakers is the number of bodies going down, after finishing Friday's game with just 19 healthy players.
Most of the injuries aren't believed to be serious. Yet, with its bye week not until Oct. 11, there's no time for Pacific Grove to heel.
Those that were able to remain on the field - several of which played on both sides of the ball - came out and dominated, building a 23-0 lead in a 30-15 win over Santa Cruz.
Holding a lead is nothing new for Pacific Grove, who scored first in losses to Carmel and Gonzales. This time it built off its lead and controlled the tempo.
The Breakers defense made big plays in big moments, such as Blake Moore intercepting a pass in the end zone to keep Santa Cruz off the scoreboard.
There was Jacob Murray's 25-yard interception return in the third quarter, leading to the third of Ben Minik's four touchdown runs.
An unheralded offensive line opened holes all night, enabling Anthony DaSilva and Chianti Carter to take turns pounding yards on a time consuming 90-yard touchdown drive in the fourth quarter.
With 24 seniors on the roster when healthy, this is a program with a lot of leadership. Yet, heart and courage can only go so far when your depth shrinks.
