Two teams still searching for cohesiveness on the court get charged up tonight with an adrenaline boast when the Spartans host rival Monterey in both teams' league opener.
Having gathered a share of the Mission Division title last fall, Seaside doesn't have an identity right now after losing reigning league MVP Jocelyn Hernandez to a knee injury.
Without arguably the best hitter in the league, setter Ashley Hernandez has turned to transfer Paulina Sanchez, who has compiled 37 kills in four non-league matches.
Hernandez has recorded 58 assists and 15 service aces for Seaside (1-3), who has won back-to-back league titles.
Expectations are high for the Toreadores, who reached the postseason last year after going 7-5 in the Mission Division.
Setter Elle Mitchell and her 300 plus assists from last year are back for Monterey, along with hitters Ana Adams and Timbre Dawson. Zain Abu-Kishk has been disruptive in the front row.
Seaside has won the last four meetings between the teams.
