Marin Catholic-Monterey football

Friday's game
Marin Catholic (2-1) vs. Monterey (2-0) at MPC, 7:30 p.m.
The Wildcats defense was impressive last week, holding Mitty to nine points. A week earlier, Mitty rang up 47 points in beating Palma.
No question Marin Catholic has a huge size advantage on both sides of the ball. The defense is flat out filthy behind 6-foot-5, 295 pound defensive tackle Jamar Sekona.
Decisions will need to be made quickly by the Toreadores offense. You can not expect an undersized offensive line to hold its blocks for more than a split second.
Expect Marin Catholic to run a Cover 2 defense and dare Monterey to run the ball. And that's what it needs to do to make a potent passing attack effective.
As much as Monterey relishes putting on an aerial show with their burners on the outside, it can't win this game if it doesn't grind the ball and chew up some clock, limiting the Wildcats possessions.
As dangerous as the Toreadores offense is with all that speed, Marin Catholic is just as athletic with two big time receivers and a sophomore quarterback with a cannon for an arm.
Preaching that this is just another game is the right idea. But the reality is it's not. There's an added adrenaline rush for Monterey. Maintaining its composure on a big stage and limiting mistakes is the challenge.
Give Monterey credit for going out of the box and facing bigger obstacles. That fact that Marin Catholic wanted to play them is a sign of respect.
