Bishop O'Dowd-Seaside football

Friday's game
Bishop O'Dowd (0-1) at Seaside (1-0), 7:30 p.m.
The defending state champions fell in their opener to Las Lomas, who was 12-1 last fall with a North Coast Section title.
The Dragons roster includes quarterback Jesse Madden, the grandson of Raiders Hall of Fame coach John Madden. Head coach Napoleon Kaufman is a former tailback for the Raiders.
Seaside has already matched its entire win total from last year after a 48-0 season opening win over Marina last Thursday.
Having an extra day to heel might be beneficial for the Spartans, who had five starters nursing ankle injuries earlier this week.
Quarterback Tristan Cortez tossed three touchdown passes in the first half last week to three different receivers. Bubba Quenga showed off a spring of running track, rushing for a pair of touchdowns.
The first quarter is critical for Seaside, who was outscored 91-12 last year in the first 12 minutes. It produced six points in the first quarter last week.
Humbled 49-6 at Bishop O'Dowd last year, the Spartans are better equipped to compete against one of the elite programs in the state in their respective division.
