St. Francis-King City football

Thursday's game
King City (0-0) at St. Francis at Watsonville High (0-0), 7:30 p.m.
Last season the Mustangs snapped an eight-game season opening losing streak, while St. Francis has won its last three season openers.
King City is 3-0 lifetime against the Sharks, posting a 14-7 win last fall when both were members of the Cypress Division.
The Sharks averaged just 7.5 points a game in six losses last year, but 44 points a game in their four wins.
Playing from behind became a common theme for King City last year in a 5-5 season, as evident by them being outscored 135-78 in the first half.
Jonah Mendez went 2-2 after being inserted at quarterback last fall as a sophomore for the Mustangs, throwing for 572 yards and two touchdowns.
Alex Valdez provided a glimpse of potentially the future in one start at tailback after injuries riddled the running game, rushing for over 200 yards and four touchdowns.
King City does return the Cypress Division Lineman of the Year in Francisco Sandoval. St. Francis was moved down to the Santa Lucia Division this season.
