The Herald's All-County girls basketball team

The rest of the best
Jordan Olivares, Seaside: A two-time Gabilan Division Player of the Year, the senior guard led the Central Coast Section Division IV champion Spartans in points, assists and steals.
Bound for Sacramento State on a basketball scholarship, the 5-foot-8 Olivares compiled nearly 22 points and 12 rebounds a night for Seaside, while averaging 4.5 steals and 5.1 assists.

Daja Scott-Mitchell, Seaside: The junior was a double-double machine, averaging double digits in scoring and rebounds in all but two games this past season.
The 5-foot-10 Scott-Mitchell dropped in nearly 17 points and 17 rebounds a game, producing a 27-point, 28-rebound effort in one postseason game for the Spartans.

Khrystiana Lynch, Seaside: The senior quietly provided quality minutes for Seaside, averaging over 10 rebounds a game this past season.
Lynch gave the Gabilan Division co-champions a presence in the paint with her 5-foot-11 frame, producing a handful of double digit efforts in the scoring column.

Destiney Urzua, North Salinas: The member of the varsity since her freshman year, Urzua led by example, finishing among the team leaders in points, assists and steals.
Urzua led the Gabilan Division co-champion Vikings in scoring in more than half their games, as well as doling out 8.3 assists a game. She was tenacious on defense at the other end of the floor.

Leslie Jaurigue, North Salinas: Named to the Gabilan Division first team, Jaurigue was a hidden gem for North Salinas, providing a little bit of everything on the hardwood.
Jaurigue blossomed this past winter, dominating play in the post for the Vikings, finishing among the team leaders in rebounds. She also averaged 6.6 points a night.

Makenzi Laporte, Salinas: The Mission Division's Player of the Year, the sophomore averaged a double-double all season for the Cowboys.
Asked to play in the paint because of her 5-11 frame, Laporte's game resembles more of a guard, as she took advantage of her athleticism to come out and hit jump shots or drive to the basket.

Jenna Zurita, Salinas: The lone freshman named to the team, Zurita was a big part in the Cowboys title run, finishing among the team leaders in points and assists.
Zurita provided a solid compliment to the league MVP in Makenzi Laporte, knocking down jump shots on the perimeter and slashing to the basket.

Briana Mejia, Alisal: The glue behind the playoff bound Trojans attack, Mejia stepped up this year, finishing among the team leaders in points and assists.
Mejia averaged 14.8 points a game for Alisal. She was aggressive on defense, relying on her vision and instincts to shutdown an opponent.

Soana Laulotu, Carmel: A four year starter and the Cypress Division Offensive Player of the Year, Laulotu averaged a double-double for the second straight year for the Padres.
A all-leaguer in three sports, Laulotu averaged nearly 15 points and 15 rebounds a game. She also led the Cypress Division co-champions in blocks.
Laulotu was also a member of The Herald's All-County volleyball team.

Nancy Andrade, King City: While the Mustangs missed the playoffs for just the second time in 38 years, Andrade was a bright spot in a somber season, averaging over 13 points a game.
Yet, it was her defense that was her strength, as evident by her being named the Cypress Division Defensive Player of the Year. Andrade had 205 rebounds and 88 steals.

Lyndsey Llantero, Pacific Grove: The sophomore evolved this past season, leading the Breakers in points and steals.
Llantero averaged a team high 16 points a game. She also pulled down 7.1 rebounds, had five steals and two assists a game for Pacific Grove.

Kelly Kinion, Notre Dame: The junior guard finished among the team leaders in five categories for the Spirits, who reached the State Northern California Division V quarterfinals.
On a team that relied on balance, Kinion dropped in over eight points, six rebounds and four steals a game for Notre Dame.

Mike Turnan, Seaside: The next step had been the objective all season and Turnan helped guide the Spartans to the programs first Central Coast Section divisional title.
Seaside won 25 games, a share of the Gabilan Division and reached the State Northern California Division III semifinals, completing the greatest run in school history.
