Palma-Aptos football

Friday's game
Palma (7-1) at Aptos (8-0), 7:30 p.m.
The Mariners are on pace to shatter the single season school record for points, averaging 48 points a game this fall. During their record breaking season in 2013, they averaged 41.2 points.
Of course, there are no more glorified scrimmages from this point on, starting with Palma, who has allowed 29 points in its last four games, and 53 for Gabilan Division play.
Michael Lizaola anchors the front seven for the Chieftains while Mateo Martinez has three picks and Sam Lathos two pick six's for touchdowns.
Aptos isn't regarded as a team that is going to air it out, as evident by having thrown 40 passes all season.
Yet, quarterback Hunter Matys has thrown for nearly 500 yards for the Mariners, with five of his 26 completions going for touchdowns.
Matys has also rushed for nearly 400 yards while Marcos Reyes is averaging 10 yards each time he touches the ball, rushing for 648 yards and 18 touchdowns.
Reyes rushed for 217 yards in last year's meeting as Aptos erased a 13-0 halftime deficit by running off  35 unanswered points in beating Palma.
Aptos' defense has been equally as impressive as the Chieftains, having allowed just 74 points all season, outscoring teams 104-14 in the first quarter.
As well as Palma has thrown the ball of late, expect tailback Anthony Villegas to be turned loose in the offensive game plan, having rushed for 933 yards and 12 touchdowns.
The emergence of quarterback Grant Sergent will keep Aptos from stacking the box. The senior has 16 touchdown passes and has gone over 300 attempts without an interception.
