When the topic comes up about refusing to quit on your teammates, coaches should take a clip from what North Salinas achieved last Friday.
Talk about a resilient group of players.
Twice this season the Vikings have suffered heartbreaking losses either late in the fourth quarter, or as was the case two weeks ago -- in double overtime.
The appearance was the overtime loss was a backbreaker when North Salinas found itself staring at a 20 point halftime deficit in Soledad.
Perseverance came to the forefront in the second half for the Vikings, who united as one and rallied for 28 points in a one-point decision over Soledad.
From a gut-wrenching loss a week earlier to a joyful bus ride home.
For a program still in its building stages, this was a giant step forward in establishing a culture first year coach Ben Ceralde has preached.
"We had something to prove and played for each other," Ceralde said. "We were reminded of our purpose."
And that is to bring pride back to North Salinas.
At 4-3 overall, the Vikings are very much still in the postseason chase. Its last three games will give them a playoff type feel.
The realization is North Salinas could be 6-1 instead of 4-3. But it isn't. It's part of the maturation process in building a foundation for the future.
