Friday's game
Monte Vista (2-4) at Alisal (4-2), 7:30 p.m.
The Trojans strung together three straight wins before their bye week, playing arguably their best football of the season.
Since an 0-3 non-league start, Monte Vista has won two of its last three, with the one loss coming from 6-0 Carmel. Three of its losses this fall are to teams a combined 17-1.
The Mustangs have allowed just 39 points in Mission Division play, holding Scotts Valley to six points last week in a 36-6 win. Two weeks ago Alisal beat Scotts Valley 35-28.
Fullback Dorian Segovia has rushed for nearly 800 yards and 14 touchdowns this season for Alisal, while Julian Renteria and Israel Corona have both had 100 plus yard rushing efforts this fall.
Three of Renteria's last six completions have gone for touchdowns for Alisal, with Enrique Ibarra catching two of those scoring tosses.
Nathan Renggli was sharp last week for the Mustangs, completing 10-of-12 attempts while Daniel Brierley rushed for 98 yards and a touchdown.
Monte Vista's defense has not allowed a point in the first half in its last two games, while Alisal has outscored its last two opponents 35-0 in the first half. Something has to give.
