Former Salinas High quarterback Matt Castaneda is closing in on 1,000 passing yards for the Willamette football team.
In five games this fall, Castaneda has thrown for 793 yards and three touchdowns, completing 54 percent of his attempts.
Castaneda, who shattered single-season school records at Salinas for touchdown passes and yards, also leads Willamette in rushing this fall.
In two seasons as the Bearcats starting quarterback, Castaneda has thrown for 2,256 yards and 10 touchdowns while rushing for 524 yards and seven touchdowns.
Former Stevenson standout Kendrick Pearson has recorded 14 tackles this year and has 110 and two interceptions for his four year career at Willamette.
