Sobrato (0-1) at Monterey (2-0), 7:30 p.m.
Avoiding a letdown after an emotional draining win over rival Seaside might be the biggest issue the Toreadores are dealing with this week.
Then again, when you have suffered through three straight losing seasons, you've learned not to take wins for granted.
Sobrato has had an extra week to prepare for Monterey and iron out its deficiencies after falling 51-16 to St. Francis of Watsonville.
Last year the Bulldogs won eight consecutive games after an 0-2 start, going undefeated in the West Valley Division. That winning streak began with a 35-10 win over Monterey.
With wins over two playoff teams from last season, the Toreadores have relied on their defense and special teams.
Monterey produced five turnovers in the season opener. And last week it blocked a punt, with Janias Thomas returning it for a touchdown, and Tony Barragan kicked the game winning field goal.
While the offense is still a work in progress, Tim Byrd has shown flashes in the backfield along with quarterback Evans Charles, who had a big completion last week to Eris Hutchins.
Jonathan Sheets is coming off a 19 tackle effort for Sobrato two weeks ago. He also rushed for the teams two touchdowns.
