Reigning Pacific Division champion Seaside brings a 12-game league winning streak into its league opener while the Eagles have won four out of their last five matches.
The two teams faced each other three times last year with Seaside capturing two non-league matches. Alvarez gained a measure of redemption on Aug. 31 with a win in a tournament.
A lot of familiar faces are back on both sides, starting with Jocelyn Hernandez, who led the Spartans in kills last year, along with all-league hitter Sydney Johnson.
The pair have formed a bound with setter Cecilia Reyes-Santos, who produced over 600 assists last fall. Hernandez already has 23 service aces in just five matches.
Opening league play with a sweep of Pacific Grove on Tuesday, the Eagles are building off of last years playoff run out of the Gabilan Division.
Alvarez has depth at the net with the trio of Aaliyah Foster, Karmyn Anderson and Vivika Padilla taking turns pounding the ball off of sets from Metzly Anguiano.
