Prep cross country

The first significant invitational of the season gets going Saturday when 30 schools are expected to take part in the Chieftain-Spirit Classic at 9 a.m. at Toro Park.
Among the boys teams challenging for supremacy are defending Gabilan Division champion Alisal and Greenfield, who has won the last two Mission Trail Athletic League titles.
In addition, Aptos, who beat Greenfield for the Central Coast Section Division III title last fall, will be in the field.
Rigo Garcia is back for the Bruins, having placed fifth in the CCS finals last year along with Alisal's Peter Maciel, who qualified as an individual for state last fall in Division I.
Gabilan Division power San Benito will chase a team championship in the girls division along with defending CCS III champion Aptos.
Three members of the Mariners state team are back, including Susana Estrada, who was seventh in the CCS last year as a freshman.
