Friday's game
North Salinas (3-1) at Alisal (2-2), 7:30 p.m.
The Vikings are one of the most improved teams in the county, having erased last year's 1-9 season by rattling off three consecutive wins going into its Mission Division opener.
Coming off the programs first ever postseason win last fall, Alisal's non-league schedule included a pair of wins over 'A' division opponents.
This could be the fastest played game of the season as both teams like to grind on the ground, relying on their offensive lines to dictate the tempo.
Matt Morales has been a difference maker for North Salinas, having rushed for over 100 yards in all four of the teams' games, chalking up close to 500 yards on the season.
The Trojans will counter with a three-headed backfield that includes quarterback Julian Renteria and Israel Corona and Dorian Segovia.
Segovia has been a machine in the red zone, with five of his seven touchdowns coming inside the 10 yard line.
Be careful about stacking nine in the box. Renteria did show off his arm last week in the Trojans win over Seaside, tossing two touchdowns.
North Salinas quarterback Jake Sotelo has been efficient when asked to put the ball in the air with a touchdown pass in last week's win over Monterey.
Both teams possess underrated defenses. Since giving up 14 points in the fourth quarter of its season opener, North Salinas' defense has allowed two touchdowns in its last three games.
And Alisal held Seaside scoreless in the second half last week.
