Head coach Sean Gomes asked his players for one thing last week. Score 20 points.
Why that figure?
Because over the last four years, the Condors are 10-0 when scoring 20 or more points -- 1-25 when failing to produce 20 or more points.
North County gave Gomes a gift with 41 points in Friday's win over Pacific Grove -- the most since his return, and the most productive night for the program since 2012, or 58 games.
No question it has been a struggle in resurrecting a program that has the second most league titles in the county over the last 35 years.
Seven coaches in seven seasons crippled the program. Not having a home field for essentially two years didn't help with the transition for Gomes. Stability, though, is finally in place.
With the exception of a lopsided loss to Carmel, the Condors defense has risen from the aches this season behind Konan Van Lear and Riley Anderson.
Van Lear is among the Central Coast Section leaders in sacks while Anderson has already compiled over 100 tackles on the season.
With the offense beginning to find its stride behind quarterback Brandon Ducusin, the Condors will be a factor down the stretch in the Cypress Division.
Ducusin, who leads the team with eight rushing touchdowns, is starting to find his touch putting the ball in the air with a pair of scoring tosses last week.
Patience has prevailed in Castroville.
