Soledad-Gilroy football

Friday's game
Soledad (0-1) at Gilroy (0-1), 7:30 p.m.
A rematch of the 2016 Central Coast Section Division IV title game, both teams are searching for an identity after being humbled in their season openers.
Gilroy, who was 13-0 last season en route to capturing a CCS Division V title, was crushed 57-0 by NCS champion Liberty Union of Brentwood while Soledad succumbed to Palma 52-6.
Both teams also have new coaches this fall, which means changes to the system often take more than one game to get comfortable with.
Gilroy, who produced 512 points last year, was shutout for the first time in 32 games, while Soledad lost its third straight season opener to an 'A' League team.
The Aztecs did provide a glimmer of what their offense could look like this season when quarterback Gabriel Florez hit Angel Olivas with a 57 yard touchdown pass in the first quarter.
Olivas caught 40 passes for nearly 900 yards last year, averaging a touchdown every four receptions for the Aztecs.
A concern for Soledad would have to be the defense, which surrendered 38 points in the first quarter against Palma. Last year it gave up 54 points in 11 games in the first quarter.
