Friday's game
Sacred Heart Cathedral (1-0) vs. Palma (1-0) at Rabobank, 7:30 p.m.
The Chieftains are looking to snap a seven-game losing streak to teams in the West Catholic Athletic League, with four of those losses coming in the postseason.
Sacred Heart Cathedral opened the season, scoring 14 points in the fourth quarter in a 21-7 decision over Fernley of Nevada, a program that fell in the Nevada State playoffs last season.
Last year the Fightin Irish threw for over 2,000 yards. The only touchdown Palma gave up last week in a 52-6 win over Soledad was a first quarter touchdown pass.
Sacred Heart Cathedral will run the ball behind Anthony Heard, who led the team in rushing last fall.
Grant Sergent looked like a surgeon throwing the ball last Friday for Palma in its win over Soledad, with four of his eight completions going for touchdowns -- all in the first half.
Anthony Villegas went over 100 yards rushing for the seventh straight time dating back to last fall, piling up 101 yards on just 13 carries.
While Palma has a little more speed on the outside this year to air it out, the offense still revolves around Villegas, who has gone over 100 rushing yards in 10 of his last 11 games.
While two fifths of the Chieftains offensive line is built around a pair of sophomores, the same holds true for Sacred Heart Cathedral, as it has a 290 and 272 pound pair of sophomores up front
