North County football

Lets not get to wrapped up in just one win. Nevertheless, this was big for a Condors program trying to rediscover their identity from the past.
The significance in their season opening come-from-behind 19-14 win over North Salinas Thursday goes beyond just a win.
Over the last four years, the Condors were undefeated when scoring 20 or more points, winless when they didn't -- or 0-22.
Yes, it's just one win. But it's a great starting point for a program that has struggled with an identity for seven years.
Remember, this is still a program with the second most league titles in the county over the last 38 years. Stability starts at the top and North County has that with head coach Sean Gomes.
The hope is it also has a defense that will keep them in games. Six times the Condors gave up 40 or more points last year.
Other than a broken play 82 yard touchdown run in the first quarter, North County shutdown the Vikings.
Behind Konan Van Lear, the Condors defense recorded two sacks and picked off a pass in the first  half to keep their opponent out of the end zone.
Yet, a big fourth quarter stop inside their own territory changed the complexion of the game as the Condors rallied with quarterback Brandon Ducusin engineering two fourth quarter drives.
These are the type of confidence building wins that can turn a programs fortunes around. Because now hope has turned to belief.
