MPC pair earn all-state academic honors in baseball

Brad Powers and Owen Lusztig have been named to the California Community College Baseball Coaches Association all-state academic team.
Powers, who completed his sophomore season at Monterey Peninsula College, compiled a 4.0 grade point average, while Lusztig achieved a 3.5 GPA.
The 6-foot-5 Powers hit .288 with five homers last spring, earning all-Coast Conference honors as a first baseman for the Lobos, who finished 22-19 and reached the postseason.
A Stevenson graduate and one-time member of The Herald's All-County baseball team, Powers will play baseball next year at Division I Towson University, just outside Baltimore, Maryland.
The left-handed swinging Powers opened the season with a seven-game hitting streak, and ended it with an eight-game hitting streak, hitting a three-run homer in his final game.
Lusztig was a utility player last spring for the Lobos, playing in the infield, outfield and caught when needed, playing as many as three positions in the same game.
Originally from Vancouver, Canada, Lusztig will play baseball next year Cal Lutheran, who won the NCAA Division III national championship in 2017.
