Jamborees, scrimmages

Here we go. Well sort of.
At least the helmets on the other side of the line of scrimmage will not resemble what players have been hitting for the last two weeks -- that being each other.
A pair of jamborees and a handful of scrimmages will unfold this weekend as players get a feel for game type situations without it counting.
Jamborees and scrimmages are very vanilla in terms of teams exposing their playbooks. But we will at least get a glimpse of each teams potential.
Each year a player or two that perhaps didn't sparkle in practice gets a coaches attention and finds a role with the team, the significance of these scripted events.
That may be more critical this year than in years past for most programs in Monterey County, as the numbers across the board are down for football.
Defending Central Coast Section Division I champion Salinas will join North Salinas, Alvarez and Alisal in the annual Salinas City Jamboree at 7 p.m. at Rabobank.
Salinas rattled off a school record 10 straight wins last year, while Alisal is coming off the programs first ever postseason win.
The Salinas Jamboree -- which is expecting a crowd of 5,000 --  will also feature the coaching debuts of Ben Ceralde at North Salinas and Anthony Gonzales at Alvarez.
The South County Jamboree will feature the head coaching debuts of Eric Rodriguez at Soledad and Adam Barsenas of Greenfield.
The defending Mission Trail Athletic League champion Aztecs will host the jamboree, which will include King City and Gonzales.
Palma has a scrimmage scheduled in San Francisco on Friday against St. Ignatius, while Seaside will scrimmage host North County under the lights.
Coming off a sophomore school record 1,658 rushing yards for Palma, Anthony Villegas got faster in the off-season with a spring of track.
