How many times has it been said for one game, Carmel can play with anyone.
Don't look so surprised at Friday's 36-23 win over defending Central Coast Section Division I champion Salinas.
Also, don't just assume that the Padres are Gabilan Division ready.
Depth would cripple them in a league like that.
That being said, the Padres sent a message that they're back after being home for the playoffs last year.
But did they really disappear?
Sure, Carmel missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade. But it was also arguably playing the best football in the area at the end of last season, scoring 227 points in its final four games.
No doubt, this was a risk for Salinas. There was no reward for playing a quote 'B' League team. And it clearly looked like Salinas was feeling the pressure.
Now it has two weeks to clean up its mistakes before facing Clovis
But this was Carmel's night. It came out, and instead of taking a punch, dealt out several blows in the second half, holding the Cowboys scoreless.
Last year Carmel dropped three games in which it lead at the half. This time it rallied from a one-point halftime deficit by outplaying Salinas.
