Primarily a starter the last two seasons, David Wayne Russo has been coming out of the bullpen this summer for Southern Maryland of the Independent Baseball League.
The former Monterey High left-handed hurler is in his fifth season playing minor league baseball in an Independent League, sporting a career 11-16 mark with 178 strikeouts in 230 innings of work.
The Herald’s Baseball Player of the Year as a senior at Monterey in 2009, Russo is 1-2 this fall with 29 strikeouts in 34 innings of work. He sports a 5.03 earned run average.
