Right now the defending Mission Trail Athletic League champion Breakers could be on the outside looking in for the postseason, sitting in fourth place.
While four teams from the MTAL made the postseason last spring, previous seasons have only seen three get a spot into the Central Coast Section tournament.
What also hurts the Breakers is their 1-17 non-league record - 1-7 this year -- over the last two years.
Pacific Grove (9-5) sits two games out of third place and holds no tiebreaker advantages among the two teams sitting in front of them in a tie for second, having been swept by King City and Carmel.
The Breakers final four league games include two with Stevenson, who sit one game behind them at 8-6, and league leader Soledad.
Not only has Pacific Grove been all but mathematically been eliminated from title contention, it will have to run the table and get help to creep into one of the top three automatic MTAL spots.
Essentially the playoffs start today for the Breakers.
