The comparisons to last year are eerie similar for the Breakers.
Which is a good thing if the objective is defending their Mission Trail Athletic League title.
Remember, this is the same group of players that propelled Pacific Grove to a league title with a 16-2 mark. Not one senior was on last year's team.
Granted, the Breakers already have one more loss in league than last year. And it won't be a start to finish lead like last season.
But Pacific Grove, who sits two games behind Soledad, is starting to hit its stride, having won six straight going into today's game at Gonzales.
While the Breakers struggles in non-league play have been well documented the last two years at 1-16 -- 1-6 this spring -- what matters is their performance in league.
Hunter Hanes is spraying the ball around the field while Trevor Heyn and Daniel Rosas are starting to heat up.
Hanes, who has won his last two starts on the mound, has drive in 18 runs in the teams first 18 games while Nathan Wood has a six game hitting streak.
Keep in mind that four of their six non-league losses were by two runs or less. All six teams went to the postseason last year.
