Reigning Central Coast Section divisional champions last year, the two teams will meet for the second time in three days, fighting to keep their flickering Gabilan Division title hopes alive.
Both the Spirits and Watsonville sit two games behind San Benito with five games remaining in the league season. Both have losses to the defending league champion Balers
Notre Dame used a 13 strikeout effort from four-year starting hurler Vanessa Gonzalez to shutout the Wildcatz 2-0 -- the first time they've failed to score in 20 games this year.
Gonzalez, who has won over 60 games in her career in the circle, outdueled Jessica Rodriguez, last year's Gabilan Division Pitcher of the Year.
Don't expect a lot of runs when the two hurlers face each other again today, as Rodriguez is 14-1 on the season with an 0.49 earned run average.
The defending CCS Division I champion Wildcatz (17-3) do have some pop with seven homers as a team, four from Anastacia Alba.
Logan Riggenbach has put up MVP type numbers for Notre Dame, hitting .481 with seven homers and 32 RBI. The sophomore drove in both runs in the teams win over Watsonville.
Meghan Amaral has begun to swing a hot bat, hitting .444 while Alexia Torculas has a .412 average with two homers.
While the Spirits have won just one league title in the last seven years, they have run off four of the last five CCS divisional titles.
