While a Coast Conference title is unlikely, the chase for a postseason spot is on for the Lobos, who have won three straight and are 7-3 in their last 10 games.
With nine games left in the season, MPC has a three-game non-conference series beginning today with Modesto, who has gone 2-8 in its last 10 games.
The Lobos, who are 17-14 overall, have relied on Monterey grad Gavin Jarvis, who leads the team in the three triple crown categories, hitting .331 with five homers and 28 runs batted in.
Jarvis also pitched a gem in MPC's last win, striking out six in six plus innings over Gavilan.
Teammate Matthew Clay is hitting .321 with 23 runs batted in for the Lobos, while Danny Sheridan is over .300, with Brad Powers sitting at .295.
As a team, MPC has hit 20 homers this spring, four coming off the bat of Treyton Steffler, while Carmel grad Lennie Rodriguez has a pair.
Arguably the best hurler in Northern California throws at MPC in Donald Kawauchi, who is 8-1 on the season with 79 strikeouts in 69 innings, sporting a 2.09 earned run average.
Nick Sassarini might be the ace for another program, compiling a 4-1 mark with 3.38 ERA, while Ryan Moreno has three wins and a 3.36 ERA.
Six of the nine games left for MPC are against teams that don't have a .500 or better record. It closes against Ohlone, who is undefeated in conference.
