Carmel-Santa Catalina softball

If staring across into the Santa Catalina dugout wasn't already odd enough for Jim Pingree, seeing his daughter in the same spot he occupied for 10 years appears even stranger.
No, it's not a time relapse, when Pingree was the Cougars coach, and his daughter Alex was pitching them to a Central Coast Section Division III title.
 That was six years ago.
Today father and daughter are clawing for the same thing, and that's a Mission Trail Athletic League title.
The Cougars are off to an 8-0 start this year while the defending league champions are just a game back going into Wednesday's showdown.
Carmel has gone 19-1 since Pingree took the reigns, including a pair of wins over Santa Catalina last spring.
Abby Gunter and Katie Fraley have been difficult outs all year for opposing teams, with one hitting over .500, and the other just under for Santa Catalina.
While Carmel hasn't matched the run production of the Cougars, they haven't had to with pitchers Jessica Pavloff and Jaclyn Hyles silencing bats during a six-game winning streak.
Jocelynne Bruno has been among the MTAL leaders in hits, while Bibiana Silva has had back-to-back multiple hit games since being inserted into the lineup.
