While dropping four of its first five non-league games made it appear as if Soledad was a team in transition, the recent turn of events suggests otherwise.
The Aztecs have rattled off four straight wins, including a Mission Trail Athletic League opening 35-point decision over Greenfield.
While it's premature to talk about chasing a league title for a program that's never won one since the school was built 18 years ago, Soledad has made enough noise to get opponents attention.
Its non-league wins include a decision over Alvarez, who is unbeaten in the Pacific Division, and its first ever win over Salinas.
Five key contributors from last year's team are back, including all-leaguer Daisy Burgarin. Xenia Suarez and Desireee Mexicano have come up big in spots this season.
If the Aztecs are looking to make a statement, Tuesday would be a good time as they travel to face King City.
Soledad's winning streak began with a 50-48 win over King City in a tournament in December. But this is a league game, where the significance is bigger.
The Aztecs are 1-16 lifetime in games in King City.
