Notre Dame-Alvarez girls hoops

To early for it to be considered an important game?
Not if you're Alvarez, who can either move into a tie with unbeaten Notre Dame with a win tonight, or fall two games back with eight to play.
The Spirits are off to a 3-0 start in the Pacific Division behind sophomores Kelly Kinion, Angela Leavitt, Grace Briley and Mariah Schlapfer, the teams four leading scorers.
The fab four have taken turns igniting Notre Dame, who has not started a league season 3-0 since 2012.
Both the Spirits and Alvarez have league wins over Christopher and Alisal by nearly identical scores this winter, with the Eagles lone loss coming Tuesday from unbeaten Watsonville.
After averaging 52 points a game in its first two wins, Alvarez was held to 32 on Tuesday. The Spirits have held their last two opponents to 32 points behind the defensive prowess of Ally Tomasello.
Mixed in with the Spirits core of sophomores, Tomasello has anchored the defense, leading the team in rebounds.
Kinion and Leavitt, who both played last year as freshman for the Spirits, are averaging a combined 19.2 points a game.
The Eagles offense is more of a committee approach, with Esmeralda Navarro, Jayona Chaboya and  Aaliyah Foster taking turns leading the team in scoring.
The two teams have split their last six games.
