While an argument can be made who has Alisal played this winter, that debate will end tonight when it hosts defending Central Coast Section Division III champion Monterey.
The Toreadores (8-4) put together a similar start last year in opening the season with 17 straight wins before suffering their first loss.
While four starters are back from last year's State Nor Cal Division III quarterfinal team, nothing has come easy for Monterey, needing overtime Wednesday to get past Salinas.
Monterey's fab four of Mohammed Adam, Mohanid Adam, Tahjae Ordonio and Evans Charles have lived up to expectations, all averaging over 13 points a game.
Charles was big in the overtime win over Salinas, sinking clutch free throws down the stretch while Mohammed Adam is coming off a 29 point outing.
One significant difference between the two teams is the Trojans depth off the bench. It's a core that supplies quality defensive minutes.
Much like Monterey, you can't focus your attention on containing just one player. Josue Gil-Silva is dropping in 22 points a game while 6-foot-5 Adriano Betancourt is averaging 17 plus points.
Four other players are providing seven or more points a night, including Sebastian Reynoso, who had a team high 17 in a Gabilan Division opening win over North County.
Dating back to their days in the Pacific Division, the Trojans will go into this early season league showdown having won 25 straight league games
