Placer-Salinas football

State Northern California Division 4-AA Bowl
Friday's game
Placer (12-1) at Salinas (11-2), 7:30 p.m.
Both teams are coming off section championships with Salinas knocking off previously undefeated Milpitas 25-18 for the CCS Open Division I title -- its first since 2001.
Placer won its 11th straight game after beating Center of Antelope 42-32 in the SAC Joaquin Section title game.
A common opponent is Aptos, who the Hillmen defeated 21-0 to begin their 11 game winning streak back on Sept. 8.
Salinas, who has won a school record 10 straight games, won the Gabilan Division title after coming from behind to defeat Aptos 31-21 on Nov. 3.
Placer has chalked up over 4,000 yards on the ground this year with Mario Perez having rushed for 1,301 yards and Marshall Chapman 1,154 in one less game.
The pair have combined for 31 rushing touchdowns while quarterback Michael Stuck has thrown for 1,666 yards and 18 touchdowns. Nearly half of his completions have gone to Travis Warren.
Salinas quarterback Brett Reade has either thrown or rushed for nearly 2,800 yards and compiled 30 touchdowns this fall, having rushed for 1,110 yards and thrown for nearly 1,700 yards.
Jeff Weimer has caught 46 passes for nine touchdowns in 10 games for Salinas while Ritchie Cerda and Mike Cortez have combined to rush for over 1,200 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Yet, before assuming it will be a shootout, the Cowboys defense has allowed just two touchdowns in the first half in three postseason games.
Linebacker and Gabilan Division Defensive Player of the Year Drew Schuler has had two picks in the postseason while Kelly McDermott had one in last week's win over Milpitas.
Placer's defense has forced 22 turnovers this year with Colin Wright intercepting five passes, one for a pick six. It has outscored three playoff opponents 130-44.
