Alisal boys basketball

Alisal (19-7, 12-0)
After two Pacific Division titles and 24 straight league wins, the Trojans will make the jump to the Gabilan Division this winter.
Unlike previous Pacific Division champions that have been moved to the upper division, Alisal won't be sacrificial lambs.
"We are very excited and ready for the challenge of playing in the Gabilan Division,'' Alisal coach Jose Gil said. "Our boys have put the work in this off-season on the court and in the weight room.''
The expectation is to compete for a title with four starters back from last year, starting with 6-foot-5 Adriano Betancourt.
The senior came of age last year for Alisal, averaging a team high 15.1 points a game, putting down high percentage shots.
It won't hurt having four year starter Steven Castro on the boards. The 6-foot-4 forward is unselfish, using his defensive talents to average 10 rebounds a game.
Why Alisal was not afraid of the move stems from the five freshmen Gil brought up two years, with the thought of being in the Gabilan Division by their junior seasons.
Anchoring that core is Josue Gil-Silva, who averaged 14 points and eight assists a game last year as a sophomore for the Trojans
"We're a team that's going to get out and run,'' Gil said. "We will run an offense that moves the ball around the floor and creates an open look. We've got some shooters.''
Vincent Gonzalez and Israel Corona were key contributors as defensive demons, while averaging a combined 11 points a game last season.
In addition, Ronaldo Enriquez was named to an all-tournament team earlier this month.
The Trojans didn't face much adversity in skating through the Pacific Division title. There will be no nights off in the Gabilan. But Alisal has been planning for this transition for two years. It's ready.
